About the workshop

A growing number of scientists are interested in sharing their work and collaborating more effectively within a global community of researchers. This session will discuss the development of tools, current approaches and practice, the socio-cultural and logistical issues faced by those working “in the open,” and the implications these have for the way science will be carried out in the future. The workshop will consist of about 2 hours of podium presentations followed by a 1 hour panel session wherein we will discuss whether an international standard for data availability and openness in research would be useful, and if so, what form it might take. The workshop is the first day of the meeting so there will be plenty of opportunities to continue the discussion throughout the meeting.
